Private rental sector grows stronger than buying and housing association sector

The number of private rental homes increased by over 28 thousand to over 1.13 million in 2021; 2.5 per cent more. With this, the number of private rental houses grew relatively more than the number of owner-occupied houses (1.0 per cent) and the number of housing association houses (0.2 per cent). New law should limit CO poisoning

If a central heating boiler, geyser, gas fire or stove is not properly installed or maintained, carbon monoxide can be released. From 1 April 2023, only certified companies will be allowed to do installation and maintenance.

The Burns Foundation and the Fire Brigade, together with the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, have launched a campaign: ‘Stop CO poisoning‘. The campaign alerts people to the dangers of carbon monoxide and informs about the new regulations. Read full article in Dutch…

Energy label proves no incentive to make rental property more sustainable

The rent of a well-insolated home is often as high as that of a draughty flat. This is according to research by property consultant Colliers. For rental homes with an energy label C, B, or A, the average rent is around 1,350 euros, for homes with a worse label it is almost 1,500 euros. With this, it does not pay for a landlord to make a home more sustainable.

The number of homes available in the Netherlands should increase significantly in the coming years. Until then, subsidies could possibly help, Buijs thinks. ‘At least to make the decision to make the home more sustainable a bit easier.
